It’s like the old saying, You put a frog in warm water and heat it up until it boils and it will stay and die. You throw a frog in boiling water and it will jump right out.
Finally us citizens can share bipartisanship on opposing this new Toll (Tax).
Most people have an out of site out of mind mentality when it comes to taxes.
Our employers take our taxes, give to the government and give us what’s left. Sales tax gets added to the cost via, products and gasoline. Out of site, out of mind.
Because this tax is not taken out of our check each week, or not hidden in our fuel cost, it is felt more and opposed more. We the citizens are personally handing over the money for the Tax instead of someone else.
And you can say, it is unfairly distributed.
For those in the highest earning bracket will pay 90.00 monthly or 6.00 one way etc and those in the lowest will have to pay the same.
This should raise awareness to oppose any and all new taxes. Weather it be slowly cooking you through your pay check, or at the gas pump.
It is all money out of your bottom line.
So, the bridge would obviously help traffic and be helpful, a 2,000,000,000.00$+
That is is debatable.
Most taxes are equally terrible. It is just another opportunity to miss manage the funds.
With apparent limited federal funding on the taxes we currently pay, here is some unsolicited opinions on possible options:
-Wait out another election and see if the next President or Trump can allocate more funds by cutting wasteful spending in the next term.
*Creating a 55 year solution to something that may could get resolved by waiting out another five years or so may be worth it.
-Allocate additional Probate Taxes across the state to help pay for this, and cut down the toll significantly.
-Restructure the flow of traffic currently and make it work and live with it, and wait for federal funding using the money we already pay in by slashing wasteful spending elsewhere.. (My favorite).
-Maybe after this big threat of paying 6.00, waiting hours to get home doesn’t sound so bad for most. Let’s scrape the idea of a bridge all together.
-Another Gas tax.... meh.
However, at least at the gas pump, the entire state of Alabama gets to chip in, and not place the burden on two well connected counties.
Benefit of a toll, if you don’t want to pay for it, don’t use it. Income tax and gas taxes aren’t so easily avoidable.
So pick your poison, or none at all.
This should go to a vote between the citizens of Baldwin and Mobile Counties. Not a select few.
